I am in choir and my teacher has been stressing lower breathing for the past 3 weeks. Thats standing straight and taking air to your lower stomach. I know a better way of saying it but no one wants to see my bad spelling. ^_^ It helps with people not hear you breath while you sing. My teacher pretty much banged it in to my head. Now every time I listen to a song with the singers breathing high, it drives me insane! I can’t listen to a song with that. It sounds like a little snake that ruins the song.
Have you ever had that? Something that your teacher or someone else makes a habit for you? Or do you know what I mean with the breathing thing?

I'm so used to breathing with my lower stomach anyhow it wouldn't be a problem with me.
It depends on the song and what you are trying to achieve

breathing from the diaphragm is ESSENTIAL for marching a low brass instrument. and i know what you mean about an instructor telling you. i'm always criticizing other marching bands for doing stuff that we don't.

I know what you mean with the breathing thing but No one really....well besides a few friend have ever influenced me. I tend to reject authority and do my own thing most of the time so I never really learned to sing....when I try to sing really good I tend to use like a breathy kinda john mayer aproach wich sounds ok I guess....I cant sing high cuz my voice is deep and when I just normaly sing I really sound bad...when I sing with songs I sound ok because I just try to imitate the singers voice and can normaly do it ok. Singing alone though...I suck

That happened to me too. My choir teacher kinda drilled it into our heads, and now when I listen to singers who are too breathy it's just like...GAH! I can't concentrate!

Do you sing in church choir or at school? It's fun at church choir cause we get to sing songs from 'Le Choriste' or for you english peeps 'The Chorus'. Here's a link where you can listen to them. We sang the same song. I was the only girl because i sang the super high notes. My favorite Song of 'Les Choristes' is 'Vois Sur Ton Chemin' profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=45497144

the diaphragm breathing was drilled into my head by my 5th grade glee club instructor, and also my first high school choir teacher. my second high school choir teacher never bothered to teach the beginner classes (which is what i was stuck in cuz they wouldn't let me try out for advanced) and therefore, we sucked so bad he hardly ever put us in any concerts.. *sad*
