Actually, Raven did not have a thing for Speedy, that was Wondergirl. Raven had a thing for Kid Flash (sorry if I sound like such a smart-aleck!).
The Judas Contract was an extremely long story-arc in the "New Teen Titans" circa 1980. It started out when the Teen Titans came upon Terrorist Tara Markov. They took pity on her when they found out she was merely confused, coming from an abusive family where her powers madeher stand out.
Or so they beleived.
The Judas Contract is a reference to many things. I'll start with the Teen Titans. It is a contract because the main story was about how Slade Wilson's (Deathstroke the Terminator) son, Grant Wilson (Ravager), wanted powers. He wanted them so bad (his brother, father, and half-sister all had them), that he made a compact, or contract with the H.I.V.E and the Chuch of Blood. All he had to do was to bring the heads of Nightwing (Robin), Wondergirl, and the rest of the Titans to them. He tried to do so, but as a result of his own powers, died. Slade Wilson wanted revenge and to fill out his son's broken promise, so he went after the Teen Titans, planting a spy in the middle of everything.
The other reference, Judas, is a reference to the New Testament of the Bible. Judas was one of Jesus Christ's disciples, but when people lobbied for the death of Jesus and the Romans agreed, Judas betrayed Jesus. For only fifty gold pieces.
This is a metaphor for Tara Markov in "The Judas Contract" was that she betrayed the Titans for the false love of a mercenary.
Fifty gold pieces.
Now, if you think about it, that is technically statuatory rape. You know, Slade Wilson is around sixty and Tara had just turned sixteen. Even if she did agree and want it, it is legally considered rape. That adds on to the pileof sliminess Slade is responsible.
On with the Judas Contract:
Adeline Wilson, and her son Joey, came to Richard Grayson (he had just given up the role of Robin) and told him about Slade.
Slade Wilson was a young hotshot in the military when he married his superior, Adeline Wilson. Soon after (They had two children, Grant and Joseph) Slade volunteered for some experimental tests. The military was testing a serum so their officers could resist truth serums. Unfortunately, the serum did not have the affect they intended. Slade was in a coma for a couple months, until he awoke. He then found out he had extraordinary reflexes and that he used ninety-percent of his brain unlike the ten-percent normal humans use.
Slade would start disappearing strangely at night, and his wife, Adeline, thought he was basically going out for booze with his friends. Wrong. It turned out he was the infamous mercenary, Deathstroke the Terminator. One night, his son Joey was captured and would only be released if Slade agreed to work for the capturerers. Adeline insisted that Slade give up, but he was too proud to stand down. Instead, he tried to grab Joey away from the men. He wasn't fast enough. They didn't kill Joey, but managed to slit his throat (they had a knife at the throat). Joey, from then on, was mute.
Grant was killed by the Titans (actually, his powers got him killed). Slade wanted revenge, so he cast in young Tara Markov. The young girl had marvelous powers of the earth itself. The only thing wrong with her is that she hated everyone, for no particular reason at all. There was only pure hate. Tara Markov was found by the Titans and became the hero known as Terra. Little did the Titans know, she collecting information on them so the Deathstroke could finally fufill the contract made by his son. Hence the name "The Judas Contract," which was the name of this particular story arc.
And Terra and Beast Boy. It is like William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," more commonly known now as "Ten Things I Hate About You." Does Petruchio really love Kate (Does Patrick really love Kat)? Or is he still after her money?
We will never know whether or not Tara loved Gar or not. She went crazy before she could make her feelings clear. Gar, however, was deeply in love with her.
When Tara Markov, in the last battle, brought the roof down upon herself, Changeling was deeply crushed. He loved what he thought to be the sweet, innocent girl who was Tara Markov. The Titans held a service for her where they learned her real past. She was part of trio, her and her two brothers. The more famous of the brothers was Geo-Force, who had the power over lava. He was part of Batman's team, The Outsiders.
Sorry...if that was a little long. I'll answer any questions asked...
