The Professor cursed, then started towards the Ravenclaws. "Sorry to bother you tonight, but would either of you happen to have a light?"
Raina drew her knees up to her chest. She didn't belong in Slytherin, and she knew that. All her family had been Gryffindors. So why had the hat sorted her into Slytherin?

She shook her head, just then noticing that the man was there. "Sorry, no," she paused, "Are you by chance a new professor here, sir?"

Amadeus nodded absentmindedly, going through his pockets once more. "Yeah, I'm the new- here we are..." Igniting a match, he used it to light his cigar then tossed it into the lake. Puffing on his cigar, he nodded again. "Yep. The new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor. Scott Amadeus, but that's Professor, Professor Amadeus, or Amadeus to you." He grinned, then jacked a thumb over his shoulder towards the Slytherin girl sixty feet away. "Who's she?"

Eleanor shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know either. I haven't really seen her around before."

Scott puffed on the cigar for a second. "...Too young to be a first year... Looks like a loner... Funny, she doesn't even look Slytherin-ish to me... More like a Gryffindor I used to know... I was in Hufflepuff, if you must know..."

She nodded. "I see. Both of us are in Ravenclaw. I'm a fifth year, myself." She hugged her knees to her chest and stared out at the lake.

"Then I expect I'll be seeing both of you in my class, aye?" The Professor smiled slightly. "Defence Against the Dark Arts was always my favorite class... Learning all kinds of offensive and defensive spells... but Potions... ugh..."
Raina began to sing, softly at first, but her voice growing louder as she progressed into the song. It was an old Gaelic ballad, and the wind caught the beautiful song and carried it to the three farther down the beach.

"of course" said Jessie as she turned to Eleanor and said to her "you want this?'' as she showed her the colorful glass butterfly

She smiled and accepted it. "Thank you." She turned back to the professor, only faintly hearing the melody coming from the other girl. "I've always rather liked potions. I suppose it's because it's so... logical. As long as you follow the directions and such, you won't often mess up your potion, you know? It's transfiguration that gets me..."

"Potions have always been my weak point. I could do anything else almost perfectly, but mixing potions never came out right... Great duelist, wonderful Quidditch player, official Animagus, and yet I can't mix a stupid potion." The Professor rubbed his chin. "Not quite sure why I can't..."
